Dynamic crack initiation assessment with the coupled criterion

چکیده
An extension of the coupled criterion (CC) finite fracture mechanics is established in order to assess dynamic crack initiation. The main change compared classical quasi-static approach consists considering velocity profile during initiation instead assuming an instantaneous proposed enables study under either or loading. It illustrated on several examples including transverse cracking laminates, drilled specimen tension compression and a V-notch subjected time-dependent CC predicts over length occurring given time depending velocity. influence significative provided large enough. Taking into account effects better representation experimentally observed variation stress as function hole size tensile loading specimens.

متن کاملA Plasticity Criterion for Mixed Mode Fracture Initiation with Crack Surface Frictional Characteristics Under Compression
A new plasticity criterion for mixed mode crack initiation angles under compression is presented, based on the characteristics of the plastic core region surrounding the crack tip with crack surface friction. The shape and size of the plastic core region were thoroughly analyzed under compression and the non-dimensional variable radius of the plastic core region for mixed mode compressive fract...
متن کاملPrediction of Crack Initiation Direction for Inclined Crack Under Biaxial Loading by Finite Element Method
This paper presents a simple method based on strain energy density criterion to study the crack initiation angle by finite element method under biaxial loading condition. The crack surface relative displacement method is used to eliminate the calculation of the stress intensity factors which are normally required. The analysis is performed using higher order four node quadrilateral element. The...
متن کاملCrack Detection with Wireless Inductively-Coupled Transducers
In earlier work we developed inductive coupling for surface-mounted Lamb wave transducers operating at relatively low frequencies, such as 300 kHz. We now report on similar inductively-coupled transducers at higher (multiple MHz) frequencies. Our investigation was motivated by a particular application, to examine a box girder top flange, using transducers mounted along the flange edge. We emplo...
متن کاملSide Effects of Shot Peening on Fatigue Crack Initiation Life
Shot peening beneficial effects on fatigue life of mechanical components are well known. However, there are some reports in the literature that indicate inappropriate shot peening parameters tend to reduce the fatigue life. It is therefore, the purpose of this study to find a logical quantitative justification for these observations. Using finite element method, a dynamic elastic-plastic simula...
